Cyber security specialist CySure has announced a new partnership with the data protection consultancy Hayes & Cole. As a value-added reseller Hayes & Cole has included CySure’s Virtual Online Security Officer (VOSO) in its portfolio of compliance and regulation solutions, to provide a complete cyber security and data protection service to its customers.
Sara Hayes, co-founder at Hayes & Cole said, “Too often compliance is watered down to little more than a tick box exercise. Whilst some large organisations can afford the reputational damage and multi-million pound fines, for a small to medium enterprise (SMEs) this can prove extremely damaging. Hayes & Cole is delighted to be partnering with CySure to offer a range of cyber solutions that can be tailored to support businesses of all sizes and budgets. Together we can provide customers an effective and affordable practitioner led solution encompassing cyber security, data privacy and general data protection requirements.”
A report from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) found that cyber crime is financially impacting small businesses disproportionately more than big businesses when adjusted for organisational size. The report[i] revealed that SMEs are attacked seven million times per year, costing the UK economy an estimated £5.26 billion. No business is too small to be attacked, however with the right approach to cyber-security no business is too small to protect itself.
Jane Cole, co-founder at Hayes & Cole, continued, “Cyber security is a key element of data privacy and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). CySure’s Virtual Online Security Officer (VOSO) in combination with services from Hayes & Cole bridges the gap for SMEs who don’t have a full-time resource to undertake a compliance role. By including VOSO in our solution portfolio we can provide a holistic and tailored compliance service to customers, from audit through to implementation, that addresses all their Data Protection needs be they practical, systems led or cyber focused.”
According to the Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2018[ii], 42% of small businesses identified at least one breach or attack in the last 12 months. Regardless of size, if a business handles personal information then data protection laws apply. The benefit of good cyber hygiene is that it demonstrates good information governance. Additionally, when performed properly it results in the protection of stakeholder assets and the potential mitigation of legal and compliance risks.
Joe Collinwood, Chief Executive Officer of CySure concluded, “Given the clear up costs from a data breach, no company can afford to ignore the threat of a cyber security attack. However, businesses often overlook the advantages of good compliance, most importantly that it potentially increases consumer confidence. SMEs that can prove they are good custodians of their customers’ data not only keep fines at bay, they engender brand loyalty. By using data responsibly, SMEs can build a more trusting relationship with their customers, enhance the buying experience and differentiate themselves from the pack. CySure and Hayes & Cole have a shared goal of supporting SMEs with solutions that enable them to be innovative and competitive in the digital economy, unencumbered by rigid big company security policies and compliance thinking.”
